Quickstart your Kayak or
Quickstart Your Canoe


These are three-hour introductions to paddling a kayak or paddling a canoe. Students are presented with basic information on safety, outfitting, equipment and skills. Basic paddling strokes are presented and practiced, teaching students to efficiently and comfortably maneuver on still-water.
The course is taught on still, open water. Minimum age is 12 and paddlers 12-15 years must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Course fee is $75 and includes boat and necessary equipment.

You should wear clothing suitable for weather conditions the day of the course AND suitable for getting wet. A change of dry clothing might make your trip home more comfortable. You must wear shoes that will stay on your feet in the water. Sorry, no flip flops. Please bring/wear sunscreen and have plenty of drinking water for the day. Please make your instructor aware of any health issues that might affect you or your class’ safety or your ability to safely and enjoyably complete the class.

Flatwater Kayak Safety & Rescue or
Flatwater Canoe Safety & Rescue

These are 3-hour courses designed to give you an overview of safety considerations and techniques appropriate for your type of boat and paddling on flat water environments including how to handle capsizes. We go over equipment, skills,simple rescues and environmental hazards that you are likely to encounter while paddling on flat water and means to avoid or respond to those eventualities. The course is taught on still, open water. Minimum age is 12 and paddlers 12-15 years must be accompanied by a participating adult. Course fee is $75 and includes boat and necessary equipment.

Please note that any watersport, including these, carries inherent risks. While we will try to provide a safe environment for the class, you must recognize that risks will continue to be present and you must assume these risks to participate in the course. We cannot be held responsible for these risks that may include injury and/or death. You will be asked to sign waivers and releases of liability in order to participate in the course. Cancellation Policy: We want to see you in a course and we want that course to be conducted safely.Paddle Creek reserves the right to postpone or cancel courses due to inclement weather, natural conditions or events that affect the safety of the course including instructor illness. In the event of our cancellation, we will make every effort to reschedule instruction or will refund for the course. Full payment for course shall be collected at time of booking. Cancellations made by clients for any reason more than 7 days in advance of the course date are entitled to a full refund.  All cancellations made 7 days or less in advance of course will result in a loss of payment.

Courses

Kayak Rolling

We offer a 2-hour kayak rolling session with an instructor designed for you to learn the mechanics of the roll and begin this development process. Many individuals find that this amount of time is about the limit of the amount of work possible during one session before fatigue begins reversing progress made. Due to the wide variety of inherent ability and fitness levels of potential students for these sessions we cannot guarantee that one or even several sessions will have you rolling, but we can provide guidance and specific instruction along your path to this goal. Minimum age is 12 and paddlers 12-15 years must be accompanied by a participating adult. Session fee is $70.

Private Instruction

Paddle Creek can arrange private instruction classes at a fee of $35/hour with a minimum of 2 hours. Our instructors have a range of experience in flatwater, moving water, whitewater and coastal skills and we can fit an instructor to best fit your needs. Scheduling will be based on Instructor availability.
